There’s a new cat at Casa Kringle: Cassie. She's from the RAPS Cat Sanctuary in Richmond, B.C., where I said I was interested in adopting an older cat with special needs.

I once used this photo to communicate with my kitty After learning about intuitive animal communication in Pea Horsley’s book, Heart to Heart, I tried it with my kitty Kringle. I hoped to help him with his matted fur, but our conversations took a different turn with inspiring wisdom, love, and humour.
Kringle the garden cat in August 2018 How does a cat lover negotiate the difficult space after a beloved cat has passed, and no furry creature is home to soften the grief? I believe my dear companion wouldn’t want me to wallow.
Kringle looks marvellous after a few days of fluid treatment My days have become consumed with senior cat care, since Kringle was recently diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). How do you help a kitty who doesn’t appreciate much handling when that’s required for treatment? I was thrilled to get nursing help from a local cat rescuer.
Kringle enjoys the garden It began after a bad experience, but my senior kitty has found new zest for living with garden therapy.
Kringle with Pea Horsley's Heart to Heart Wouldn’t you want to hear your pet talk in your own language? According to intuitive animal communicators, it's possible! I loved Pea Horsley’s account of attending a workshop and discovering that animal communication was her calling, in her book Heart to Heart. Last year, a holistic healer connected with my kitty Kringle, and it was a moving experience. I’m hoping to develop the skill myself; Pea Horsley says that anyone can.
Missy was a contender for the World’s Oldest Living Cat. My 1989 photo that placed her at 26 years of age allowed me to open a file with Guinness World Records.
Kringle with my library copy of the book Pam Johnson-Bennett is wonderfully generous with secrets from her cat behaviour counselling practice. I loved her earlier book, Think Like a Cat, recommended by our Quebec cat behaviourist Éduchateur, in its French translation! This book is equally excellent.
My senior cat Kringle My kitty Kringle is an elderly fellow. Senior cats can be so grateful for a safe home. They might be grumpy too. We knew that Kringle was in pain when the vet diagnosed him with arthritis. He hadn’t been cleaning himself as well as I had hoped, especially the area near the back of the tail. Although short-haired, he was developing mats. He wouldn’t let me help him with grooming by brushing or combing them out, and clipping was out of the question. His sharp teeth would snap together, and although he didn’t usually draw blood, the warning was enough to stop me. He was in pain.
Blackie and Ginger on their cat tree I shared a love story on my other blog that you might enjoy. Ginger and Blackie are important in the story, and even Kringle makes an appearance, but it’s about love and friendship and family, about hard times and how love can help get us through them. Hope to see you there!
